This is me also a Dutchie with an AT💕

Hello everyone, let’s introduce myself also ! My name is Sonja and live in Holland, yes that small country next to Germany and above Belgium at the west side of Europe, with the :tulip: tulips, woodenshoes and windmills :+1:t2:

As a little child in the 70 ties, I watched the tv series Black Beauty and the virus to be a horse then and wanted a horse later never left me. So I took lessons at the local horsestable for several years and found a girlfriend who owned a Welsh pony and was the one always working in the stable just to be with him, and dreamed that one day I got my own. Then As a teenager the focus shifted to boys😉and for decades I didn’t do anything with horses. At the age of 29 I picked it up and took lessons again with a black Fries till I became pregnant 0f my youngest son.

And again two decades later I mounted a horse for riding lessons, in mean while I volunteered with a local breeder of 7 Russian Arabs and 1 purebred AT and 2 partbred AT (AT xArab) and Phileine was the purebred mare. The breeder wanted to breed a fast endurance sporthorse, but Phileine never had a foal. I already fell in love with her, when I got the opportunity to buy her I did it in a heartbeat. So she became mine after all those years of wanting one some day, my wish became the truth in 2022. By then I knew her 1,5 years already.

Because she was ment to be a broadmare they didn’t put any time to make her a riding horse. So I took that challenge and chance. After a few hiccups in the training we are now at the stage that I’m on her back, slowly step by step learning the tricks and putting on the steering wheel with the breaks😜we’re making progress and I’m so proud of her.

Because I’m the owner of Phileine (6 yo) as an AT, I joined the ATHA and since November 2023 in the board in my role as the secretary together with Lindi, Marian,JJ and Silvie everyone in their own role.

So for me a non existing long line of a life with horses or working with them. But luckily for me I know a lot of good friends who do have the knowledge and skills and I love to learn from them and I’m like a sponge absorbing the intell they are giving me.

Pretty pretty Phileine… still cannot get over the family resemblence with Kamila.

They have the same open expression, soft eyes, ears… totally heart melting, can fully understand how you fell for her

The dream to be a horse never left me either! We are so lucky that our horses willingly share their world with us.

That is so beautiful that you grew close with and got to know Phileine for some time before she became yours. Sounds like she chose you too! And so wonderful you have gone on a learning journey together. With horses, there is always more to learn but that makes it all the more rewarding when we reach milestones with them. We are forever students together.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and for the work you do with ATHA! I am so happy you are surrounded by people who support and encourage you, and your Akhal-Teke mare.

Wow, you’re so right about the resemblance! I thought this was another photo of Phileine until I spotted the differences. The socks gave it away. Kamila is also a beauty!

Right? Phileine’s father was Kamila’s paternal half brother… so I guess technically Phileine is Kamila’s neice.

Also goes to show how small the Teke world is, with me importing my Kamila from Estonia and living not even 30 minutes from where her half brother (also imported) already had foals on the ground. :exploding_head:

You’re right Lin, they have a great resemblance! You told me earlier so, but the picture says it all. And indeed they are nephew and niece. Only is Phi a little bit more obese :joy::joy:she does well eating the Dirkshorn hays at the time I took the picture. Now more slim they are now 24/7 outside :cherry_blossom:

You’re welcome  and with pleasure :kissing_heart:

That is awesome though. You and Kamila are part of the great “Teke” tribe circle!
