I have always been curious about those that have a belly spot.
It seems like no one ever mentions them.
I have noticed this a lot too in the breed! I was told it is a mark of minimal sabino. It seems common too for many to have ticking (rabicano) around the flank, sheath, and tail dock. Many Tekes also have blue eyes on a fairly solid coat color, sometimes only partial blue eyes or one blue eye (heterochromia).
I am also curious if anyone knows more on the expressions of these phenomena within in the breed.
On that same note, Dorsal stripes! If I’m not mistaking, Algush has a dorsal stripe as a chestnut?
I don’t know a whole ton about color genetics but I find it very interesting.
Yes! Good eye. It is really interesting.
Algush carries the nd1 gene from his sire Kevlin. It is a dun gene responsible for the expression of primitive markings without the dun dilution. The Akhal-Teke does not carry the D dilution dun gene, but this nd1 can still cause dorsal stripes, leg barring, and shoulder marking. Sometimes it seems to alter coat color of foals, as nd1 foals often look a bit different from non-nd1 foals, but more often you can only be certain with genetic testing.
